Send’em Off Smiling
You know when you have one of those days, where you feel good about yourself and other people; you feel happy because you are reassured that there are a lot of just plain good people in this world. Well, I felt that today at work, and decided to share it with all of you.
I’m sure you’re sitting there wondering, why? What happened that is soooo special? My answer to you is, nothing happened; nothing exciting, no one saved someone from a burning building; but it is a pretty dang good feeling to know that you are surrounded by people who have reached out to get a whole office BUILDING together to help a local charity. InfiniDy, and many other companies in our office building are coming together to raise money for a foundation called Send’em Off Smiling.
Picture this. You’re 11 years old, it’s the night before the first day of school, and you’re getting ready. Putting your binder and pencil case in your backpack, planning your outfit, and staring at your brand new shoes. Not just any shoes, the coolest shoe’s you have ever seen; you know every one of your classmates is going to love them as much as you do.
But not every 11 year old child gets to feel that; not every child of any age gets to feel that. Some children can’t get those brand new back to school items. How do you think they would feel? Probably not as great as the kid with the new shoes and fully equipped school bag.
It is that feeling that Send’em Off Smiling wants to eliminate in children whose families can’t afford back to school gear, and new school equipment every year. They want children in need to feel that happiness, to feel included, not like an outsider, and be prepared for the school year. Each year, Send’em Off Smiling recieves donations, and uses the money to fill backpacks with:
One pair, good quality jeans
A warm, long sleeve shirt
Good quality running shoes
School supplies (grade appropriate)
These backpacks go to children in need as gifts.
“Thank you for the wonderful backpack and cool shoes, they are awesome. I love all the markers and the pencil crayons and the pencils and the erasers, everything was awesome. I like everything and when I got the backpack I felt really special. I really like all the stuff you put in the backpack, it is always really awesome. I like how it’s always in different places so you have to look to find the different things that you put in the backpack.”
Now I’d say that sounds like a pretty happy child, wouldn’t you?
